Reagan

Republican icon Ronald Reagan once struck a fear of government interference into the hearts of red-blooded patriots everywhere when he famously said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’”

Like so many mantras today, this has been discarded in favor of blind party loyalty as the GOP clamors for the federal government to intervene in state affairs. Not that it’s the first time.

Spatially ambiguous government

The director of ICE has targeted Boston and its status as a “sanctuary city” (a city which neither hinders nor cooperates with the federal government on matters of immigration), promising to ”flood the zone” with federal troops after Mayor Wu spoke out against Attorney General Bondi. ICE has been disrupting Massachusetts communities for a while now; there’s really not been a shortage of ICE and anti-immigrant activity here.

How can the MassGOP expect to gain a foothold in blue Massachusetts when their national platform repeatedly attacks the state, and they do nothing to distance themselves from it?
